Honey Bee second part to be shot

The Malayalam romantic comedy Honey Bee became hugely popular when it was released. Now, the director of the film, Lal Junior (Jean Paul Lal), son of the actor director Lal has decided to make a sequel of the movie and the project is making headlines.

Making sequel has become a common trend if the original film has been successful. However, Junior Lal said that his aim of making a sequel is not to cash in on the success of the earlier film, but to reunite the cast for another exciting project.

In the original movie, Asif Ali, Bhavana, Baburaj, Sreenath Bhasi, Archana Kavi, Balu and Lal played important roles. According to sources, this original cast will be retained in the sequel. The story of the sequel will start exactly where the earlier film left off. Bhavna and Asif Ali are now married and they embark on their married life. The sequel revolves round how they deal with the problems of marriage and tackle their booze loving old friends.

The fun scenes and quick bites from the original Honey Bee will be preserved. The work on the film will probably start early next year because Junior Lal still has two projects in hand.

Dhyan and Shobana in Thira movie

Dhyan Sreenivasan is all set to make his big debut in the film titled Thira. It is going to be directed by his big brother Vineeth Sreenivasan. This is going to be the first thriller movie of the director. The Thira Thrayam is a trilogy. Thira is the first one though the three are announced together. The film is set against the background of Goa and Karnataka. The name refers not to the sea but to bullets.

The director has brought in a collection of fresh faces for the movie. However, Shobana is one exception who will appear in an important part in the movie. The director had approached her months before with the script and the actress accepted immediately.

The film is being produced by Manoj Menon under the banner of Reels Magic while it is being released by LJ Films of Lal Jose. Though the director has brought in a number of fresh faces, his crew remains the same as his last film, Malarvadi Arts Club.

Thira is going to be the third film to be directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan. He has directed two previous films. These are Malarvadi Arts Club andThattathin Marayathu.

Arjun Lal to star in Asha Black

Anybody who has watched the Mohanlal starrer Thanmathra, is familiar with Arjun Lal though you may not realize it. Arjun played the role of the son of Mohanlal in this film by Blessy. Since that film, Arjun had concentrated on his higher studies. After completing his courses, the youngster opened his own business with friends in Bangalore.

Now, Arjun is back to the silver screen and planning his comeback with the Malayalam film titled Asha Black. The story of the film revolves round a central character called Asha. She thinks her father hates her because she is black and ugly. So, she starts to look elsewhere for affection. This leads her to a dangerous world. Then she turns up dead in suspicious circumstance. The investigation into her death forms the rest of the story.

In the film, Arjun plays the role of a young musician. He owns a band in Bangalore and is an energetic young man full of life. In addition to Arjun, other notable actors appearing in Asha Black are Sarath Kumar, Manoj K. Jayan and Joy Mathew. The pooja of the film was performed on July, 15th. The film will be directed by John Robinson.

Jayasurya teams up with Nyala for Punyalan Agarbattis

According to reports, Jayasurya will team up with the new actress Nyala in the upcoming movie Punyalan Agarbattis. It is being directed by Ranjith Sankar. He had made a name for himself with his movie Passenger. The film is going to be a comedy which revolves around the central character titled Joy Thakkolkkaran. He is a whimsical entrepreneur hailing from Thrissur. Jayasurya and Sankar are together producing the film.

After Passenger, Ranjith has directed two other films Arjunan Sakshi and Molly Aunty Rocks while there are two more projects, namelyMayflower and Sudhi Valmeekam. So, it will be quite some time before he can give his attention to Punyalan Agarbattis.

Nyala, the radio jockey had recently tried her hand at acting and has tasted success. She had finished working on Kunjananthante Kadawhere she stars opposite Mammootty. She has played the part of a village girl.

In this latest film, Nyala will appear as a modern woman who works in the telecom sector and takes care of her family including husband and two children. Rachana Narayanankutty, Aju Varghese, TG Ravi, Mala Aravindan, Sunil Sukhada, Edavela Babu, Shivaji Guruvayur etc will appear in the film. The shooting will start around Onam.

Mammootty to star in Gangster

The fans of Mammootty are always expecting their hero to deliver something new with each of his new films, and the actor does not disappoint. Two of his films, Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty, and Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus are pending release and he will be seen in different guises in both of them. Now, the actor dons on the persona of an underworld gangster in his upcoming film Gangster.

Talks have been going on for almost a year and now the cast of Gangster is on the way to being finalized. The film will be directed by Ashiq Abu who is handling a number of projects. In the film, Mammootty plays the role of an underworld boss named Akbar Ali Khan. There will be a number of thrilling action packed sequences in the film. Rohini Attangadi, Parthiban, Baburaj and Suraj Venjaramoodu also appear in the lead role of the film. Gangster is being produced under the banner of the Ahead cinema company. The script of the film has been written by Ahmed Siddique and Parthan Mohan. Ahmed Siddique had become popular with his work as Mirash in Salt N Pepper. Parts of the film will be shot in Mangalore and Kasargod

Prakash Raj to make Ulavacharu Biryani


Prakash Raj is a multitalented actor with a passion for directing, though not all of his films have met with success at the box office. His latest effort, Dhoni won awards and acclaim, but failed to win over the audience. Now, Prakash Raj is once more getting ready to direct a film and he will also be appearing in the lead role.

The film is the superhit Malayalee Rom-com titled Salt and pepper. The film portrays a love story spanning two generations, deals with the concept of loneliness and food plays an important role in the story. That is why the tagline ‘Love is cooking’ has been given to the Telegu version of the film which will be named Ulavacharu Biryani. Though it is not confirmed, Prakash Raj will probably pair against Sneha in the film.

Prakash Raj is both directing and producing the film in three languages – Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. The Tamil version will be titled Un Samayal Arayil. The casting and name of the Kannada version is still being processed.

According to sources, Ilayaraja will be composing the music of the film while celebrated lyricist Sirivennela Sitharamasasthry will be penning the songs.

Mammootty in ‘Balyakalasakhi’ as Majeed

Vaikkom Mohammad Basheer remains one of the most popular Malayalam writers. His writings have always been distinguished by the common man touch where deep philosophical concepts have been presented beautifully in simple down to earth language. Today, even after 19 years of his passing, the writings of Basheer remain popular in Malayalam. Adoor Gopalakrishnan had done magic with one of the best works of Basheer. In his film Mathilukal, Mammootty had appeared in the lead role and had won award after award. In fact, he even won national recognition for it.

Now, another story of Basheer is going to be made into a film and Mammoootty is once again going to appear in the lead role. This is definitely a movie worth waiting for. Balayakalasakhi is the chosen film. It is a period movie, set in Kerala between the years 1918 and 1946. The lead characters in the story are Majid and Suraha whose love story still resonates with the common Malayali people. A period village reflecting the conditions of pre independence Kerala is being created outside Kochi for the shooting of the film. Extensive research has gone into crating the celluloid version of this ever popular love story. Shooting will start in August

Dr. Biju and Prithviraj are back with Painting life

Director Dr. Biju and lead actor Prithviraj has earlier presented hit films like Veettilekulla Vazhi and Aakashathinte Niram to the highly appreciative Malayalee audience. They have now teamed up for their third effort titled “Painting life”. The film is being produced by Sajiumar under the banner of Dharmik films.

The story of the film revolves round a five member film crew who gets trapped in a village during shooting of a film and how they try to return to their normal life. There is speculation that Priyamani will appear in the lead role, playing a woman from the village who meets and befriends Prithviraj, though it has not yet been finalized. Priyamani had earlier paired up with Prithviraj in films like Satyam, Thirakatha and Puthiya Mukham. In addition, Anumol, who is getting more and more serious parts, will also appear in an important role in the film.

The movie was originally titled Yathrakalude Dooraam but was later renamed as Painting life. Most of the movie will be shot in the village of Chitkul, known as the last inhabited village of India. In addition, portions will also be shot in Kulu, Manali and Ladakh. The shooting will start as soon as the lead actors can make time.

Prema Katha Chitram to be remade in Hindi and Tamil

J. Prabhakar Reddy had directed the Telegu film Prema Katha Chitram. The plot was unique while the actors delivered their best. Sudheer Babu, Nanditha, Pradeep and Giri appears in important roles in the film. The film was a runaway hit. It was made on a whopping budget of Rs 2.2 crores. However, the film had grossed Rs. 10b crores within two weeks of its release.

Prema Katha chitram combines horror, comedy, thriller and suspense in an extremely palatable cocktail. The film revolves around four youngsters. They are all about to commit suicide for various reasons. Due to circumstances they enter a farmhouse and their lives change with the events that unfold there.

Now, the rights to Hindi and Tamil remake of the film have been bought by various producers and reportedly for a fancy price. According to Sudarshan reddy, the producer of the Telugu film, “The remake rights have been bought for exorbitant price. While the hindi remake rights have been bought by Adi Seshagiri Rao, the Tamil remake rights have been purchased by Tamil producer Kasi. Both adi and Kasi are on the lookout for big studios in Hindi and tamil respectively to have the film remade”.

Sringaravelan – new Malayalam blockbuster movie in the making

Scriptwriter duo Udaya Krishna and Sibi K Thomas has delivered one after other box office hits like Mattupetti Machan, Udayapuram Sulthan, Dhosth, C.I.D. Moosa, Runway, Thuruppu Gulan, Twenty:20, Pokkiri Raja, Christian Brothers, Mayamohini , Mr.Marumakanand Kammath & Kammath. Now they are getting ready to deliver yet another blockbuster which will be full of humour and good fun. The movie titled Sringaravelan is directed by Jos Thomas and will be released during Onam this year.

Dileep and Vedhika will be appearing in the lead roles in the film with Lal, Kalabhavan Shajon, Baburaj and Nedumudi Venu in various characters. The plot of the film revolves round a poor weaver’s son who tries different ways to become wealthy and ultimately decides to wed a rich girl. The pula of the movie was completed on 3rd June and the shooting is currently under way. The film is set in the picturesque locations of Palghat, Pazhani, Pollachi and Ottapalam.

Sticking to their subtle and fascinating way of telling a tale, Udaya and Thomas are crafting a script that will appeal to your sense of humour. Keeping in mind their latest dazzling work in Mayamohini, the Malayalam audience has a treat to look forward to this Onam.
